IKEA Hack: Cool Photo Backdrop

So while at the grocery store (don't ask) I had a great idea for how I could put a permanent system in place to hang photo backdrops from. So I began with the DEKA curtain wire kit from IKEA. I mounted the end units to the top of our entertainment center and strung the wire across. Luckily it was exactly the right length. I then attached the clips that came with the kit and viola, I can hang any color backdrop that I want for an in home photo session. You don't even notice that the wire is there unless we point it out to you. I can't wait to use it to take some pictures. Incidently, I choose to install this in our living room because there are windows around the entire room and it gets tons of great natural light. Here are some pictures...

DEKA Curtain System from IKEA ($4.99).

Curtain post & wire on top of entertainment center.

Hooks attached to wire.

Black backdrop attached to wire.

Viola! One backdrop ready for pictures.

Wow, great idea! I would love to use something like that to hang holiday stuff from; so easy to change it up at each special day!

great idea! i'm a pro photog and did something similar with a curtain rod from ikea and a big roll of photographic backdrop paper. it's in my kid's room and so it also serves double duty because he uses it to color and draw. when we're done, i tear it off and start all over.
