This week I want to know "Why do you scrapbook?" Leave a comment with your answer and you might win a prize. Remember, if you don't have a Blogger account, be sure to leave your email address. Good luck and I hope everyone has a great weekend!
I use to think it was only for a creative outlet, which it is, but I truly want to leave a story behind for my kids, so when I'm not around they will know about their childhood as well as mine and husbands childhood. Scrapbooking is a hobby I know I will do until I am no longer able to do it! :)
I scrap to "keep" those moments forever. It is so much fun (And sometimes a bit sad) to look back on those moments that sometimes are forgotten as life can be so busy. I also scrap to spend time with my friends (which is sometimes a bad thing b/c we get so caught up in catching up that not much gets done... but still love sharing time with them and would not trade it)
For me, it's about leaving a legacy for my kids. My parents divorced when I was nine and my father burned all the family photos to make sure my mother couldn't have them. I have very few memories of my childhood and just wish sometimes that I had photos to jog my mind. I want my kids to remember the times we spent together....I want them to be able to look at a scrapbook page and be taken back to that time...I want them to know how much I love them.
To make the past part of the future. I recently got some old pictures of my great grandparents and I want my children to know their stories and make them real people, not just names on a paper. Then my dad showed me some old photos of a friend of hiswho had recently died and I realized I wanted to do something with them so her history is told (she had no children) so perhaps I'm just hooked on photos! I hope one day someone looks at my pictures and learns something about my family and does the "wow" about our lives (though we didn't come to Canada by ship with 3 young children, travel to the west coast with her future husband, bury a young daughter and have 2 more children by the time she was 32 like my grandma did) Canadian Jayne (and it hasn't snowed for over a week now!)
I started scrapbooking for my daughters, to get all the pictures in albums.....but once I did that...I discovered scrapbooking for the creative outlet....now I need scrapbooking in my life...it's not just a hobby anymore...it's a part of my life...a part of my sanity!!!
I started scrapbooking as a way to do something interesting with all of the pictures I was taking of my newborn. It has now evolved into something that I just enjoy doing for me. It is a great hobby!
I started scrapbooking as a way to preserve those special memories of my boys. I still scrapbook for that reason....and now more! I also scrapbook as a way to get some "me" time, away from the hustle and bustle of home. I scrapbook with my two sisters and it has been a great way to strengthen our sister bond.
I scrapbook to let my children know who I was as they are growing up..And what they did..I love to create scrapbooks for them to remember their childhood.and for me and my husband to remember ours too..I am now starting to get older photos of my family members that are not with us anymore to scrapbook and my brother talk to our grandfather before he passed away wrote down everyone in the photos and what they are doing.I am so happy we will be able to have those memories forever.....
Scrapbooking is like breating to me. If I don't I will suffocate and well you know. It has been a part of my life way before it ever had a name. I would say when you have been doing something for almost 18 years and I am only 35 you just can't stop. All these years I have been scrapbooking to keep my memories in a place other than my mind. I no longer remember half of what I scrapbooked. But as soon as I open that scrapbook up the memories come flooding back in and that is the greatest feeling. To be able to relive that event over and over as if it just happened. The feelings, smells, emotions, joy, sorrow all comes rushing back and puts a smile on my face. I can only hope that when my children look back at their books, they too will feel their past coming alive again and again.
I scrapbook as my creative outlet...as a way to tell the story...as a way to preserve the past...as a way to spend time with friends...as a way to capture time. It's truly something I couldn't live without.

ReplyDeleteIt's a fun and productive way to spend time - looking at photos, pretty colorful supplies, and hanging out with my scrapbooking friends.
